Terms and Conditions

GhostCheck helps groups coordinate and split restaurant bills. The Service may allow users to:

• Create an account and maintain a persistent host profile and meal history.
• Create a meal, invite guests, and display a QR code for check-in.
• Upload, photograph, or enter receipt information and use AI-assisted receipt extraction.
• Claim or assign items, split shared items, and calculate each participant’s share, including tax and tip.
• Share host-provided PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or Apple Cash handles or contact details.
• Record payment status and send meal-related notifications by SMS, email, web push, or iOS push.

GhostCheck does not process, hold, transfer, or guarantee payments. Payment handles help users arrange payment through services outside GhostCheck. Payment arrangements, fees, reversals, disputes, and confirmations remain the responsibility of users and their chosen payment providers.

You must provide accurate information and keep your sign-in credentials secure. Accounts may use phone verification, email credentials or magic links, Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, or other supported methods. You are responsible for activity under your account and for promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized access.

You may not use the Service if you are under 13. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Accounts and host profiles may persist across the website and iOS app. Information about deletion requests is available on our Support page.

Hosts agree to:

• Provide accurate meal, receipt, participant, and payment-handle information.
• Share guest contact information only when authorized and use it only for the applicable meal.
• Review receipt extraction and bill calculations before requesting payment.
• Use payment status as a coordination record, not as proof that payment settled.

Guests agree to:

• Provide accurate information and a phone number or account they own or are authorized to use.
• Claim only items they ordered or were authorized to claim.
• Verify amounts and payment instructions before paying.

All users agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, abusive, or harassing activity.
• Submit malicious code or false, misleading, infringing, or unauthorized content.
• Interfere with the Service, bypass access controls, scrape the Service, or attempt unauthorized access.
• Impersonate another person or misuse their contact information, account, payment handle, or push token.

Receipt extraction is automated and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Users must verify item names, prices, quantities, subtotal, tax, tip, allocations, and totals against the original receipt.

Claims, calculated shares, and “paid” status are user-provided coordination records. GhostCheck does not independently verify that a person ordered an item, owes an amount, or completed a payment. The Service is not a receipt, escrow service, payment processor, debt collector, or financial institution.

You retain any rights you have in content you submit. You grant GhostCheck a limited license to host, copy, process, display, and transmit that content as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service and provide the meal to authorized participants.

GhostCheck may send transactional communications related to authentication, meals, claims, reminders, payment status, service notices, and support.

• SMS: By requesting a verification code or choosing SMS at check-in, you consent to the applicable transactional messages. Message frequency varies. Carrier message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help.
• Email: Account and host notification emails may be sent to the email address connected to your account.
• Push notifications: If you grant permission, GhostCheck may send web or iOS push notifications related to your meals. You can disable push in browser or device settings.

Consent to transactional messaging is not a condition of purchase. GhostCheck does not send marketing SMS, and SMS opt-in data and consent are not shared for marketing or promotional purposes.

GhostCheck relies on third-party services that may include:

• Supabase for authentication, database services, and receipt image storage.
• Twilio for phone verification and transactional SMS delivery.
• Google and Anthropic for AI-assisted receipt OCR.
• Resend and email infrastructure providers for transactional email.
• Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and browser push services for notifications.
• Apple and Google as optional authentication providers.
• PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and Apple Cash when users independently pay outside GhostCheck.

Your use of a third-party service is also governed by that provider’s terms and policies. GhostCheck is not responsible for third-party payment services, identity providers, communication networks, or their availability or actions.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE; THAT RECEIPT PROCESSING OR BILL CALCULATIONS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE; OR THAT A CLAIM, PAYMENT HANDLE, OR PAYMENT STATUS WILL BE CORRECT. USERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING ALL BILL AND PAYMENT INFORMATION.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GHOSTCHECK AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF MONEY, DATA, PROFITS, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, THIRD-PARTY SERVICES, OR THESE TERMS.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED TEN U.S. DOLLARS ($10.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
